Optimal clinical pathway for adults with Functional Neurological Disorder

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is a neurological disorder seen very frequently in clinical practice.  The long-term outlook for patients is poor with most remaining with long-term disabling symptoms.  The symptoms, disability and co-morbidities of people with FND are highly heterogenous: they vary widely from person to person. A successful pathway for people with FND requires a range of services available into which people can be referred depending on need and complexity.

The development of the optimal clinical pathway for adults with functional neurological disorder has been overseen by NNAG and led by a working group of FND specialist clinicians and FND Hope UK.  A public consultation was held to gather input, views and experience from people with neurological conditions and wider stakeholders.

The cross-cutting theme pathways should be viewed alongside this pathway.

To support the development of the pathway FND Hope UK, with the support of The Neurological Alliance, facilitated patient focus groups to understand the views of people with lived experience.  You can read a summary report here.
